Christian Dior Couture

Yesterday afternoon, after a really long day, I decided to relax a bit and catch up on all the couture shows. I loved Christian Dior, probably because of the 50’s inspiration – court shoes, pencil skirts, waistbelts etc.

For a couture show I find it’s very wearable…which is good in a sense…but don’t we all want to see the fantasy in the couture? Garments we’ll never wear but love to look at? Although if I could afford a piece or two from this collection, I’d love them and they’d certainly be investments…but maybe they should have kept this for RTW? Just my opinion.

Which was your favourite couture show?

Sabrina

You know those movies that you used to watch like 100 times when you were younger? Sabrina (the 1995 remake) was one of mine. My mom bought the film and I loved watching it with her and my sister. I saw it for the first time in 13 years last week, and I fell in love with it all over again.

My favourite part is when Sabrina, played by Julia Ormond, goes to work for Vogue in Paris. Not only does she get to work on shoots but makes photography one of her hobbies – sounds like one of my dreams – maybe because I watched the movie so much?

That’s Sabrina on the far right.

The Vogue shoot.

Her superior at Vogue.

Taking pictures in Paris with one of Vogue’s top photographers.

Sabrina when she comes back to Long Island from Paris, looking pretty amazing.

I don’t want to give the main story away (that would be lame), but if you love a good romantic comedy with some great fashion and a bit of Parisian scenery, I recommend this movie to you.

I found out a week ago that there’s an original 1954 Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn – I’d love to see it, have any of you seen it?

Zooey Deschanel

I found some vintage inspired/cute/quirky pictures of Zooey Deschanel…

Beautiful lady. I think her hair in the second last picture really suits her.

Dita Von Teese

Dita Von Teese is to launch her new lingerie line, Von Follies, exclusively through Australian retailer Target in February this year. The collection was inspired by her love for the 1950’s pin up girl as well as her own personal collection of vintage lingerie. This fabulous collection will include high waisted briefs, garter belts and over-wire bra’s.

Dita explains: “From age 16 I worked in a lingerie store, and I had a very strong interest in the history of underpinnings and how styles changed from decade to decade. Even at age sixteen, I wanted to be a lingerie expert, so I did everything I could to learn about it! I started collecting vintage lingerie at a young age, and my love for it is what lead me to imitate pinup art of the 1940s, and that is what sparked my career as it is now. Even back then, I equated beautiful lingerie with femininity and everyday luxury rather than seduction. Of course, the art of seducing with lingerie is a wonderful thing, and I am quite aware of the effect it has….but first and foremost, a woman should seduce herself by choosing lingerie that is both beautiful and functional that she can wear in her everyday life, and so bringing these things together, along with affordability, is what I aimed to achieve with my lingerie collection.”

Patek Philippe

I’ve been looking for the perfect watch for a while now. It’s so difficult choosing one that will suit your style, outfits and other jewelry.

My sister showed me this Patek Philippe watch. Yes, I am swooning over it right now, although I could probably never afford it.

Wait until you hear what this watch is made out of…

“With its charming case in warm rose-gold framed by a convex bezel, the new Ref. 7000 is a timepiece of great beauty. Nine applied Breguet numerals in 18K rose gold and dainty rose-gold pearls at the periphery of the dial are placed along the hour and minute circles, accenting the easily legible, open face of the watch.”

In the latest issue of Vintage Lifestyle, there’s an article on Patek Philippe. The most interesting part for me was one of their pocket watches being auctioned for $11,000,000 (R88milllion). Wow.

Mulberry SS12 Campaign

This is the type of fashion campaign I like to see. Fun, colourful, summery and in Brighton…

The clothes are damn amazing and those bags…oh my. I will not rest until I own a Mulberry bag.

I went to Brighton during my UK trip in 2010. Luke and I walked around The Lanes (best place to buy/browse expensive vintage jewelry), had lunch at Donatella’s and watched indie musicians performing in the side streets for some extra cash.

Loved this random cute cottage among the High Street. I was 19 here. I went over in their summer but it was still a tad chilly for me being a South African and all. Hence the cardi and leather jacket.

What do you think of the campaign?
