Manolo Blahnik
Posted by Nicole Danielle Warr in Vintage/Fashion on November 23, 2011
Manolo Blahnik and author Camilla Morton launch a new fairytale story – Manolo Blahnik and Tale of the Elves and the Shoemaker. There’s also another one, Manolo Blahnik Drawings, illustrated by Blahnik with Andre Leon Talley and Anna Wintour from American Vogue as the authors.
They’re available here on Kalahari if you’re thinking of buying it for yourself. It could also make a rad Christmas prezzie for a dear friend? We all love pretty pictures.

I’m looking for someone to do vintage/fashion illustrations for my magazine. Drop me a comment if you know of anyone (that wont break my bank account).
Coco Sumner
Posted by Nicole Danielle Warr in Vintage/Fashion on November 22, 2011
Just over two years ago, my cousin played me a song she told me she knew I’d like. It was Ceasar by I Blame Coco aka Coco Sumner. For those of you who don’t know who Coco is, she’s Sting’s daughter. If you don’t know who Sting is…oh boy! Anyways, I LOVED the song.
Great style, right?
When I was in London last year, I browsed through the local newspaper on the train to pass the time. I saw “I Blame Coco LIVE in London tonight!” The tickets were five Pounds each (for real) – R60 to see one of my favourite musicians. The line was super long when I got there though. To cut a long story short, the tickets were sold out and I wasn’t able to see her live. Next time then.

I’ve been itching to post ‘behind the scenes’ pictures from the fashion shoot on Sunday for VLM, but I can’t give too much away. The next issue is out in about two weeks – not too long now.
Celebs Wearing Vintage
Posted by Nicole Danielle Warr in Vintage/Fashion on November 17, 2011
I’ve had a vintage love affair for about 2 years now, and whenever I see the word ‘vintage’ on Twitter, Facebook or a blog, my attention is grabbed immediately. Recently I’ve seen a couple of celebs wearing vintage – some wearing what they think is vintage and some wearing true vintage. I couldn’t help but gasp/giggle at this one…
“Kate Middleton wearing vintage Amanda Wakeley.” Yeah. It was from her 2006 collection. That is not vintage in my books. Anything from the 1920’s-1980’s is vintage to me. Even though it isn’t vintage inspired, she does look beautiful.
This is Julia Roberts in vintage Valentino (1982) at the 2001 Oscars.
Kim Kardashian wearing a reworked version of her mom’s vintage Valentino (1984). I thought the bow was cute, but whatevs.
Here Drew Barrymore is wearing a dress she bought at a vintage store for $20 (140). So great!
3 sleeps and it’s the big birthday issue fashion shoot. Can’t wait!
Sunglasses Of The Past

Clockwise in Picture 1 – Grace Kelly, The Police, Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Onassis and Bridget Bardot.
Clockwise in picture 2 – Francoise Hardy, model from the 60’s, Madonna, Debbie Harry and Jean Shrimpton, Tom Cruise.
I must admit I had lots of fun gathering these pictures. Came across some dodgy pictures of Ozzy Osbourne and Cyndi Lauper even though I love them to bits and their music is pretty awesome.
I noticed that almost all of these styles have made their way back into fashion today – we all have a pair of wayfarers or aviators. This is unlike a lot of hairstyles, make-up trends and even clothing that no one dare to ever wear again!
Which is your favourite style?

Never Before Seen
Posted by Nicole Danielle Warr in Vintage/Fashion on November 9, 2011
Apparently these are some of the never before seen pictures of Marilyn Monroe.
Absolutely exquisite.
We often look at pretty pictures of some of the most iconic beauties of all time, but really actually know very little about them. Here’s a little bit more about Marilyn Monroe…
Born Norma Jeane Mortenson in 1926 but was raised as Norma Jeane Baker. Norma spent most of her childhood in foster homes and then began modeling before she was scouted by 20th Century Fox executive, Ben Lyon, which led to her first film. Ben changed her name to Marilyn Monroe as he believed it sounded more ‘Hollywood’. Marilyn dyed her hair blonde to imitate Jean Harlow and Lana Turner who were successful actresses at the time. Monroe starred in several movies but received a Golden Globe in 1959 for her role in Some Like It Hot. Unfortunately, she passed away on August the 5th 1962 of a drug overdose – suicide, homicide and accidental overdose have not been ruled out.
Labia Night Market

Just a few snaps from the Friday Labia Night Market. I was in vintage heaven and definitely spoilt for choice – I wanted everything! I did buy a beautiful necklace from Bow Peep accessories and an amazing white skirt from Vintage Lover though. There were many well dressed folk around. But my favourite was definitely Bongi in the last picture. So African, so chic, so awesome.
My week ahead includes thrifting, meetings and a fashion shoot on Sunday. Verrry excited.

Nine West Vintage America Collection
Posted by Nicole Danielle Warr in Vintage/Fashion on November 4, 2011
I saw an advert of the Nine West Vintage America Collection by Karen Elson and really liked it. Quirky and fashionable with a touch of vintage inspiration. Nine West is having a sale here (dangerous)…
I love that vintage is ‘in’ and that more and more people are realising that most of the latest trends you see on the catwalk are vintage inspired…but IMO, there’s still nothing like wearing a true vintage item that belonged to your grandmother for example.

I realised this morning that in exactly one month, my magazine [Vintage Lifestyle] turns one! Yipppee!

My Week With Marilyn

I’m not sure how much longer I can wait for this film to be released, let alone in South Africa. I’M SO EXCITED! Here’s a link to the trailer (my blog wouldn’t allow me to embedd it). I think Michelle Williams is a well chosen Marilyn Monroe. Swooning over the outfits too! Who’s with me?
